Albania is a small Balkan country. It occupies a part of the Adriatic coast along 472 km, behind the "toe" of the Italian "boot". The greatest distance from the sea is up to 150 km. It borders Montenegro, Kosovo, Serbia, Macedonia and Greece.
The Strait of Otranto, 75 km wide, separates it from Italy. On the coast there are several comfortable bays - Vlorsky, Drinski and Durenski. The area occupied by Albania is more than 28 thousand square kilometers - one of the smallest countries in the Balkans, but also larger than Slovenia, Macedonia and Montenegro.
Albanians call their country 'Skipperia', which means the land of eagles.
Albania is a mountainous country occupied mainly by the Dinar Mountains. One third of its territory is over 1000 meters above sea level. The Northern Alps and Southern Albania, Tomari and Anija cover a large part of the country's territory, making it one of the most inaccessible parts of the Balkan Peninsula. The highest peak is the Big Ship on the border with Macedonia and Koval - 2753 m.
